The largest mainline coach manufacturing facility of the world, Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala has developed the Diesel electric Multiple Unit to cater to the requirements of commuters on meter gauge sections. The introduction of such units will provide comfortable and frequent service to daily passengers of meter gauge sections. It will replace existing locomotive hauled short distance trains.

One meter gauge diesel electric multiple unit consists of six coaches (two driver cars and four coaches).

SALIENT FEATURES OF THE TRAIN

• The rake can carry more than 1000 passengers. It has a seating capacity of 424 passengers. Rest can be accommodated as standing passengers.
• Two emergency open able windows have been provided in each coach for emergency exit.
• Train can run at a speed of 75 Kmph.
• Seats with cushions are provided for a comfortable journey.
• To increase passenger carrying capacity sufficient space is available for standing passengers and adequate hand holds have been provided.
• Sufficient numbers of luggage racks are available.

DESIGN FEATURES OF THE COACH

• Two Nos. 350 hp fuel efficient engines of M/s Cummins are prime movers of the rake.
• Adequate safety devices such as high water temperature, over-speed, and low lube oil pressure are provided in the engine.
• Electrics have been provided by M/s BHEL consisting of traction generator, traction motors and controls.
• 12mm FRP front en cover with single piece look out glass has been provided for better aesthetics.
• Capable of multiple operations.
• Twin pipe graduated release air brake system has been provided for the first time on Meter Gauge.
• 8000 ltrs. Under slung fuel tank has been provided.
